Beatrix Potter describes Kitty MacDonald as being a small, round, suntanned woman with small, dark eyes who wore several petticoats and a white cap. Tiggy-Winkle is based on a real person named Kitty MacDonald, a washerwoman whom Beatrix Potter's family employed for eleven summers when they vacationed in the Scottish Highlands.
